Kate said in one interview that the pilot is transporting a few people
from one place to another and that whatever is going on is illegal.  I
also think she once said that the song was inspired by the film *The
Maltese Falcon*.  I'm not aware of her saying much more than this on
the matter.  I've never seen *The Maltese Falcon*.  Perhaps this would
be a good place to start.
