Funny thing is, wrt Fiona's post about an artist's commercial presence being
what pulls in new fans, I didn't get into Kate until about two years
ago; my girlfriend was a KateFan who had all of KaTe's albums but didn't
really listen to them all that much. She played me _The Ninth Wave_ a
couple of times, and I proceded to listen to all of Kate's stuff nonstop
until we broke up (a few months ago). Thus, I looked forward to TRS as
much as anyone on this list, but before then I loved Kate in a commercial
vacuum.

I first got into Pink Floyd when a friend of my mom's sent her a dub of
DarkSide -- nostalgia and all that. I was very young, but I listened to
it over and over; far more than my mom did =). Once more, no commercial
pressure, and a lasting influence was made.
It seems like the majority of the music that *I* have taken into my heart
is older, or less hyped. Fairport Convention, Happy, some various
'classic rock'.

On the other hand, I did meet my Other Favorite Band through the radio.
Rush definately has kept the public presence going, and I'm sure that has
helped introduce people the wide range of music they've made.

Sure, I'd love to see Kate shown in some of the less crass productions of
the Music Biz -- CD-ROMs, videos, whatever. But somehow Kate's music seems
best out of the commercial spotlight -- the mysterious weirdness
almost demands an underground spread. Maybe I'm just being an elitist,
but that's how I see her.
