I vaguely remember someone asking Kate in an interview if the Ninth Wave
was about some famous sea accident . . . is this in the archives? Anyone
want to look it up?

A fellow I went to high school with went on to West Point, was a premier
yachtsman, and was piloting one of the yachts in that race. He lived and
was rescued after quite a long time in the water, but the boat was lost.
I remember being utterly astounded at his story, because we were both such
nerds in high school. I haven't thought of him in years. Thanks for
giving us such a great description of the incident . . . gives me a better
idea of what he went through.
