I don't know why it'd be necessary for such a simple function, but possibly
Sound Extractor does something that violates the cache management on
Quadra-class Macs.  Try turning off your cache and giving it a go.

(And, sorry to say, they're still mucking about with the ftp.apple.com
fileserver, so I can't get the converted files over there, and I'm
about to disappear on vacation for 2 weeks.  Looks like the CD will
be out by the time I have any success.  Hope Sound Extractor works
for one and all!)
