Friday 23rd July

North Sydney 15 (N Soloman C Makepeace tries D Halligan 3 goals
J McArthur field goal) beat Eastern Suburbs 10 (S Whereat N Gaffey tries
N Gaffey goal) at North Sydney. Crowd: 15,753. Referee: G McCallum.

Norths break a three match losing streak to just stay in the five.

Saturday 24th July

St George 18 (R Walford 2 G Bradley W Collins tries B MacKay goal) beat
Balmain 16 (D Bayssari M Edwards tries B Smith 4 goals) at Leichhardt.
Crowd: 7105. Referee: G Annesley.

A scrappy but gripping encounter in which St George came from behind
twice to win. Saint's David Barnhill was send off for a high tackle in
the 34th minute.

Sunday 25th July

Manly 38 (O Cunningham 2 I Cleary J Devereux G Toovey D O'Connell tries
I Cleary 7 goals) beat South Sydney 10 (S Wilson R Maybon tries B Pearson goal)
at Sydney Football Stadium. Crowd: 8059. Referee: T Kelley.

Illawarra 26 (B O'Meara P McGregor B Lindner R Wishart B Rodwell J Cross tries
R Wishart goal) beat Gold Coast 0 at Steelers Stadium.
Crowd: 8926. Referee: T Mander.

The Gold Coast went to pieces in the second half.

Brisbane 38 (S Renouf 4 J O'Neill M Hancock Kevin_Walters G Lazarus tries
T Matterson 2 J O'Neill goal) beat Canterbury 18 (J Serdaris S Wilson D Smith
tries G Hill 2 S Wilson goals) at ANZ Stadium.
Crowd: 54,751. Referee: B Harrigan.

Three sinbinnings in the second half saw Canterbury playing 30 minutes
with only 12 men in 20 degree plus heat against Brisbane's freeflowing
style.

Western Suburbs 11 (R Wyer try J Taylor 3 goals field goal)
at Campbelltown Sports Ground. Crowd: 4537. Referee: S Clark.

Cronulla 14 (F Kelly C Quinn tries M Healey 3 goals) beat
Parramatta 12 (J Bartolo T Tollett tries M Buettner 2 goals)
at Parramatta Stadium. Crowd: 6349. Referee: E Ward.

Good work before the break an stout work after it see Cronulla win their
7th of the season. Buettner missed a last minute penalty that would have
drawn the game.

Canberra 16 (M Meninga B Mullins J Croker tries M Meninga D Furner goals) beat
Penrith 10 (M McGaw try G Alexander 3 goals) at Penrith Park.
Crowd: 8725. Referee: D Manson.

Canberra came from behind to beat an improving Penrith, after Sheens used
Gould's notes on his team to motivate them.
