I may regret the work this entails, but I have volunteered to join the "Seven Samurai" as a new branch in the tape tree, pending a verification of my ability to produce decent copies (more on that below). It seemed that we were getting a shortage of Stereo-capable dubbers, so I have coordinated with Peter Manchester and will be getting a 'topdub submaster' in the same time frame as the Seven Samurai. Here is the catch. In order to make stereo copies, I need to use a Hi-8 camcorder as the source into my stereo VCR. I will not be able to get a Hi-8 submaster directly from Chris' S-VHS master, so there will be one more dubbing step in my path over the normal VHS -> VHS path. Here is how I understand it: Source Master submaster copy PAL -> S-VHS -> VHS -> VHS In my case it will be Source Master submaster subsubmaster copy PAL -> S-VHS -> VHS -> Hi-8 -> VHS Now, Hi-8 is a format similar to S-VHS, so I believe that the extra step should not involve much more signal degradation over the normal process. However, I would like to prove that before I have anyone send me tapes. Here's the deal: If you would like to get a stereo copy from me, send me email and I will reserve you a spot and give you details on how to get a tape to me. Once I have the submaster and make a successful copy, I will shoot e-mail to everyone who has a reservation and tell them to send the tapes. I will make copies on a FCFS basis and send them back. My e-mail address is: hoyme@src.honeywell.com As others have done, I reserve the right to cry 'uncle' if I am flooded with too many requests. Since I am not one of the Seven Samurai, you may simply call me The 'Bush'ido Submaster ;-) Ken
