I'm absolutely certain this thread has been beaten to death in rec.music.gaffa, but that's never stopped me from making a fool of myself before, so... The connection between "Hello Earth" and Challenger going *poof* are more than a little obvious. Now, I've read (I'm not making this up, honest) that Kate wrote this song as a tribute to the "Challenger 7". The problem is, the song is from 1985 and if my alcohol-addled memory serves me, McAluff et al assumed room temperature in 1986! I seem to recall, at the time of the Presidential Commission on the Challenger Disaster, thinking how "Hello Earth" would make appropriate background music for this bunch, particularly the line about "Murderer! Murderer!" as the Morton Thiokol managers tried to obfuscate their role in the explosion of the SRB. Someone help me out here... am I losing my mind or can Kate see into the future with 20/20 vision?
