Digest Numbering??

I am curious about the Digest numbering system. I thought that the
numbers corresponded to years in operation (8.300 = 8th year, 300th
digest in that year) but I notice that the current digests are still
at 8, instead of 9, which I would have expected. What's up? Is LH
not entering its 9th year, or have I been wrong about what the
numbers mean?

Again, just curious, it doesn't matter to me either way.
