hmm, can't believe we're still wrapped up in this topic -- i guess we're kinda stuck... just BTW, but a "gaffer" is a person who rigs lights for movies, etc. -- they're the people who drop wrenches on the lighting designer when s/he decides that all those red gels need to be replaced with blue ones... real "gaffer's tape" is usually cloth-based, designed to withstand the intense heat of professional lamps, tends to be black, and doesn't leave a goopy residue all over your equipment and self. the silvery, plastic, gooey, prone-to-melting-and-wadding- up stuff you find in the average hardware store gets it's name, duck tape, from its use in wild fowl hunting -- in the wilds of Minnesota you can vast webs of the stuff, with the hapless birds firmly ensnared... Craig offers: > (Oh, and Chris, I'll trade you my :-) for one of yours!) ah, shoot! and i need just one more :-) to complete the set. don't suppose you'll take a ;-} instead? well, i gotta go clean all the gooey stuff of my mic cables -- i can't afford to be suspended in gaffa: i use the cheap stuff from the hardware store... footah! -greg -- gb10@gte.com -- "a woman drew her long black hair out tight and fiddled whisper music on those strings and bats with baby faces in the violet light whistled, and beat their wings" -- T.S.
