Subject: Time for an Overhaul?

It appears that something in the long chain of equipment that brings Love-Hounds to our door has broken again. The newsgroup appears to have been "down" since very early Monday and I haven't received a digest since very early Tuesday. Gaffa and Love-Hounds have always been prone to this sort of thing since at their source they rely on a single path of distribution for everything. As I've mentioned before, I think we'd be better off if rec.music.gaffa were allowed to function as a normal newsgroup and the gateway handled only gating articles to and from the mailing list. This would have the further benefit of removing the stigma that accompanies a moderated newsgroup (psuedo moderation not withstanding). Are there disadvantages to such a arrangment that I'm not aware of? The current setup seems to ensure the completeness of the digest at the expense of the newsgroup. Might a more balanced approach be appropriate? "Don't drive too slowly." Richard Caldwell AT&T Network Systems att!cbema!nrc nrc@cbema.att.com
