Good Golly

Chris here,

Vickie found the following in todays issue of USA Today (Mar. 6th, 1991).

Recent arrivials to Love-Hounds may not be aware of the connection.
_The Sensual World_ is a (partial) paraphrase of James Joyce's immortal
(and some feel immoral as well) _Ulysses_. Kate sought permission to use
the original words, but was refused. Note how the word "rewrite" is
whispered. Several brave Love-Hounds/Joyce-scholars recreated the "original"
lyrics. Jon "Flambe" Drukman took the insturmental version of the song
and a singer and produced a recording.

                        GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY

James Joyce's classic novel _Ulysses_ was censored when it was first
written; now a piece for chamber music and orchestra using text from the
book is running into trouble as well. Gloria Bond's _Molly Many Bloom_,
which will be premiered March 10th in Schenectady, N.Y., by L'Ensemble
and soprano Ida Faiella subsequently will be heard in truncated form when
broadcast March 24th on Schenectady radio station WMHT. The station finds
the text too explicit. We can't give examples because this is a family
newspaper. Check out the book. Bond says she understands the radio station's
position.
