Hi. I saw this on another newsgroup, and thought you guys would be intersted., I am a closet Kate fan, and have been a lurker on this group for the last month or two. I almost considered going to the Katemas party at Vickie's, because I am always in Chicago. Well, maybe next time... This is fine with me. I just wish that there were standard channels to go through. I made the mistake of doing a dance mix of one of my songs for a recently "finished-up" recording project and added a couple of drop-ins. I thought you just call BMI and ASCAP and send them the check, right? Wrong. They referred me to Harry Fox, who referred me to the record labels, who some of which return my calls, most of which have transferred me to more extensions than I care to count, and of the three artists in question at least one of them only approves such things *personally*, so off went a tape to Welling, Kent, England for the very slow and studious ears of a particular Ms. Kate Bush. EMI said to be willing ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ to wait quite a while since she's rather slow about these things. So I wait. In the meantime, I'm producing the 'RUTHless 7" Edit' of the damn song so I can release the rest of this stuff in sooner than geologic time, and for all I know any one of the bunch could veto it and then 'The Handheld Mix' is just a thing of the past (or, if, Klod Forbid, I actually become successful enough to maybe break even on one of these projects, a rare collectible [Ed. You'll have to excuse him, he hasn't been getting enough oxygen lately.]). Mostly I'm sorry I asked. Considering that I'll be lucky if I can foist off 500 copies of this thing (probably 200 is a more realistic number, and maybe a little bit of local airplay) this bout of ethics has certainly been more trouble than it's worth. larry... -Jeff ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeff Axelrod | "If you chose not to decide, you still have made | a choice" -Neil Peart, Rush /// ja26612@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu | \XX/ AMIGAUSER -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
