Healing my Confusion

Subject: Healing my Confusion

Just this quick *THANKS* first to Jon Drukman, then to all
the others who have EMailed me bits of information to heal my
Confusion. I know GET from SEND now. I even GOT something. (A
.gif file, but my local viewer spat it out--"file extension block
encountered" or some such--a local problem I can fix with another
viewer I have at school.) I think what I'm learning is that when,
against advice, I chose a VAX/VMS environment instead of an IBM/
UNIX environment to get accounts on, I shut myself off from some
necessary gateways.

Several of those replying to me directly are presumably using
answering utilities, hence writing me as pBmanchester@ccmail.sunysb.edu,
which is in fact the account from which I am writing this. But I use
this account only because my normal and regular account, pmanchester
etc. <as below> has network access but no KERMIT. If anyone addresses
me manually, it is far easier for me to reply personally if you write
to pmanchester.

If I actually come to understand all the things I was confused
about (Usenet a set of sites, for example, not a network proper), I will
pack together a posting sharing the light.
