Subject: Kate and Irish Music
There was a brief clip of Kate on the BBC TV programme "Rapido" (hosted by that virtually unintelligibly frenchman, Antione de Caunes) last night. The programme ran a feature on music from Ireland and its major influence on popular music today, and so naturally included a few comments from Herself. She mentioned the fact that her mother was Irish, and the huge influence Irish music had on her, especially when she was growing up. She also spoke of her association with Irish musicians. The weird thing was that they also showed a clip from "Cloudbusting" which has absolutely nothing to do with Irish music ! I mean the obvious thing would have been to play _The Sensual World_, yeah ? Sinead O'Connor, The Christians, Terence Trent D'Arby(!), and The Waterboys were also included in this feature. <Warning- Non KT item coming up !> If you've never heard of the Waterboys then I suggest you drop whatever you are doing this instant, make your way to the nearest record store and grab a copy of either _A Pagan Place_ or _This Is The Sea_ because this band is excellent, especially live. I had the good fortune of seeing them in Dublin on New Years Eve 1988 and they were bloody good. They are heavily influenced by Irish music (even though they are mainly Scottish), especially their latest album _Fishermans Blues_. Anyway, don't miss an opportunity to see them live if you get a chance.
