Hammer Horror

Listening to Kate over the weekend, a friend and I
were musing over whether "Hammer Horror" referred
to the English Hammer Mystery Movies that were popular
at one point. I have never seen one but my friend has
and said they are pretty good. 
Also, this same friend then asked if "Kashka from Baghdad"
was about a gay couple. This is apparently a popular
theory. 
Can any Love-Hound shed some light on these thoughts?
Sorry if this has been discussed before. I've been
a silent Love-Hound  for years and don't recall
seeing it.
