Wagner; vegetarians

Subject: Wagner; vegetarians

I really only mentioned Wagner to object to the phrase "modern musical
history" and to suggest that Kate's ideas about writing music had some
cultural precedents. However, I think IED's response that the analogy
could be furthered by considering Kate's performance/video work is
highly perceptive. Wagner, of course, espoused the concept of "total
music drama" in which the music, plot, characters, and visual setting
all made significant contributions to the overall gestalt of the work.
I think there is fertile ground for research in examining Kate's work
in the light of standard Wagnerian theory...

Someone (with a long name) asked whether Kate was a vegetarian (spelled
with two e's, like vegetable, btw). I always thought she was, although
memory may be faulty. Peter Gabriel is. So are Annie Lennox, Chrissie
Hynde, Ranking Roger, Madonna Ciccone and a bunch of other pop stars
whose names I forget.
