Summary: Kevin Ayers is NOT a terrible vocalist!

Oldfield just CAN'T pick male vocalists, I'm sorry! Listen I'm going to have to go out and get this album and listen to the track in question before I respond at length. After all, it could be a mismatch between the material and the vocalist. It could also be that Kevin was having an off day when he recorded this particular track. However, selecting Kevin Ayers is a point in Oldfield's favor as far as I'm concerned. I've followed Ayers from the first Soft Machine album through his solo efforts and enjoyed his vocals a great deal. I would highly recommend giving the "June 1, 1974" album a few spins on your turntable. This album also has John Cale, Nico and Eno on it, so it won't be a total loss even if you don't like Kevin Ayers. If you still think that Kevin Ayers is bad vocalist after hearing "Stranger in Blue Suede Shoes", "May I", and "Shouting In A Bucket Blues" then your tastes are strikingly dissimilar to mine. While I go out and listen to this track, I'd appreciate it if you could give me a sampling of the male vocalists that you think are better choices. Lance F.
