Subject: Big Black compact discs
While looking through compact discs at Zia Records, I came across two by Big Black, which had some amusing comments printed on them. On "Songs About Fucking" was the following message: This compact disk is made from analog masters recorded without noise reduction. Half the tracks, in fact, were recorded in a dismal, cheap basement eight-track studio with puddles of water on the floor. Digital technology will now faithfully reproduce those noisy, lo-fi, unprofessional masters for you at great expense. Feel stupid yet? The liner notes on the back of the jewel box include: "The future is for analog loyalists. Fuck digital." The other CD, "The Rich Man's Eight-Track Tape", says on the label: "When, in five years, this remarkable achievement is unplayable on any 'modern equipment', remember: in 1971, eight-track tape was state-of-the-art."
