Subject: Joe Turner's notice in re KT bootleg cheesecake
Thanks for lettting us know about the new edition of the Paris bootleg, Joe. That photo which you describe on the cover is not of Kate Bush, but of a "Kate lookalike" whose nude photos were published (if IED recollects correctly) in an autumn 1982 issue of the British Penthouse magazine. Very sleazy, and if you see the rest of the photos, you can see that it's not Kate at all. As for the use of one of those photos on a bootleg LP cover, it doesn't surprise IED at all. There's zero evidence that the people who make KT boots are fans. That's highly unlikely, in fact. In the first place, any real fan would do a much better job of organizing the tracks, listing the titles correctly (there are no fewer than eight mistakes on the cover of the three-record set), etc. And in the second place, a real fan wouldn't even sell a bootleg in the first place! According to the most recent poll taken by Goldmine -- the Kate was recently gauged to be the fourteenth most collectable artist in the business. There are five or six times as many Kate items listed for sale in current Goldmines than five years ago. Given all that, it's not surprising that slimewads right and left are pressing up smarmy bootlegs every other week to cash in on the Bush Boom. -- Andrew Marvick
