The dwindling of vinyl...

Seems off-hand that this would close the gap between under- and above-
ground music, since CD technology is not widely available for everyone
(at least because of price).  What is probably likely to happen, is that
instead of looking for new bands on vinyl, you're going to be seeing them 
on cassettes.  And this is more likely to spur the movement of underground
bands, since it's easier to record your own tape, than it is to press your
own vinyl album.  

Until CD players get as durable and as standardized as cassette players do,
don't look for exclusive CD releases...and by the time that happens CD 
recordings will be as "easy" to make as vinyl ones.
