Just in time for the holidays is the new benefit single, ``Feed The Beat,''
for African anti-hunger efforts.  Instead of musicians, this single (on 12"
only) is a collaboration of mixers, featuring Trevor Horn, Jellybean
Benitez, Rick Rubin, Steve Nye, Don Gehman, Adrian Sherwood, Nile Rodgers,
Ron St.-Germain, Hugh Padham, Mitch Easter, Bob Clearmountain, George
Martin, Jimmy Iovine, Steve Lillywhite, Bill Laswell, Jimmy Jam and Terry
Lewis, Francois Kevorkian, and T-Bone Burnett, among others.  The song,
which comes in the ``AORish Mix,'' ``Urban Contemporary But Still With A
Loud Rock Guitar Solo In the Mix,'' ``Overused DX-7 and Fairlight Sounds
Mix,'' ``Mix Featuring Sounds Like Electric Piano That Were Formerly
Considered Unhip,'' and the ``Really Incredible Drum Sound So It's Almost
Industrial Mix,'' is notable in that different producers are used in
different 30-second segments.

No original music was recorded for the song; instead, sources like

* the word ``there'' as sung by Lionel Ritchie in ``We Are the World''
* a Steve Perry ``whoah'' from a Journey song
* a snare drum from ``I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday''
* guitar from ``War Pigs'' by Black Sabbath

were sampled, modulated, and otherwise processed with the latest digital
technology (and Adrian Sherwood's twenty-year old AM transistor radio).
The ``street date'' is next Monday, November 17th, and will be handled by
CBS-PolyWarner, Inc.
