Subject: The Bolshoi
Any of you Hound-dudes (and dudettes) listening to The Bolshoi lately. Heard their new release on Mega-buck Records? EMI, I think. Well this band has (un-)successfully transformed themselves from an acceptable [insert-label] band to just another "we're-out-for-the-bucks" type. *Books On the Bonfire* is a great example. Take a listen to this song and tell me it doesn't sound just like, gasp, The Thompson Twins! A couple of the songs of their Giants EP could have passed for early Cure. Another band bites the production room floor. Finally heard the "new" the The single a few days ago. Heartbreak something or other. It sounds like Matt is taking a run at the charts himself. The refrain is "This is the 51st state of the USA". Well, Matty old boy, sounds like you've joined the flock too. I'm scared to get this album now, maybe I should just keep Soul Mining close to my heart and call it a day. I'll just wait for Hitchcock at the Paradise on 2 November... ----- ----- Dave Juitt What's the matter, Eddie? Are you frightened? UUCP: ...decwrl!dec-ultra!juitt Frightened?!? No, Frank. ARPA: juitt%ultra.dec@decwrl.arpa I think startled is a better word.
