There seems to be some misinformation about the history and contemporary
situation of the Australian Aborigine in this newsgroup.  People should
consider the genocide of Aborigines in Tasmania during the first century
of white settlement, the British use of Maralinga for atomic testing this
century, the current land-rights struggles and the impoverished situation
of most urban Aborigines before claiming how lucky this race has been.
This is not really the forum for such discussion/education, so instead I
urge you to track down some contemporary music by Aboriginal bands.

"Big Name, No Blankets" by the Warumpi Band (Powderworks Records)
"Island of Greed", "Kooniba Rock" by Coloured Stone (Imparja Records)

(the labels are Australian independents)

If you find these difficult to come by you could consider listening
to some latter Midnight Oil (a band sympathetic to the Aboriginal
situation and whose music has been used by the Land Rights movement).

Here I suggest "10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1", "Red Sails in the Sunset"
(which should have CBS release in most parts of the world) and their
current single, "The Dead Heart".
