Actually, that is how Elton and Bernie work.  Bernie provides lyrics to
Elton, and Elton sets them to music.  Check otu the documentary "Tantrums
and Tiaras" sometime, and you will see how Elton does it.  There is a scene
with Lulu, where Elton meets her in the studio and she gives him a lyric
sheet.  Within an hour, he has written and recorded the piano portion, and
they get the vocals recorded together.  It's truly amazing to see, but it's
just one example of how Elton works.  The man is a genius in coming up with
catchy tunes that capture the mood of the lyrics.  Love his style or hate
it, you have to admit the man has talent in order to be able to do this so
quickly.
