I really, really like Laurie Anderson, and I really, really like Ella Fitzgerald, and of course this implies some artistic thread binding them to each other. And no, I _haven't_ artificially conflated my appreciation of their music into some secret commonality that only I can ascertain. I mean, they're both women who sing stuff, right? Women who sing stuff are essentially _all_ the same, really. Besides, if I discover a commonality, I can then place them in a hierarchy, and that's always fun. And while I'm at it, has anyone else pondered the injustice of Robert Smith copping Laurie Anderson's hairstyle, becoming far, far, more famous than her, thereby ripping her off artistically, and stealing what is rightfully her due? steph p.s. what's a dreaming plug?
