I've stayed out of this one because it's fun to
watch. But, oh well....

From: WretchAwry <vickie@miso.wwa.com>

"Columbia now nine times the speed of sound"

is actually

"Columbia now at nine times the speed of sound".

Sorry, Wieland, Vickie is right. As a lifelong
resident of the city that built the Shuttle engines,
former NASA contractor, and having listened to
almost every flight since NASA absorbed the local Army
ordinance organization (well, the engine
group under Dr. Von Braun), that is legitimate
ground chatter to the Columbia orbiter, probably
STS-1 but that's a guess. I worked at MSFC during
that mission. If so, that's John White or Bob Crippen.

Still have the T-shirt.

Dan is on the ground and makes the statement
"Columbia...". The pilot speaks next "Roger that
Dan, I got a solid TACAN locked on, uh TACANS
2 and 3.", and there is a third voice giving the
trajectory data, then another voice is mixed
in but I don't hear that one clearly. It is very
possible these are punched together, but
I don't know why she would bother except for timing.

>On a final note, this is hardly the place to try to impress anyone with
>your meagre intellect. This is the Kate Bush group, and for a Katefan,
>intelligence is included in the price of admission. - -JB

Well, there goes my membership. Tori?

>hopefully this message will get to where it's going. if someone could
>reply just so i know it's found it's way,i'd be kateful..er,i mean grateful.
