you know... this is a very interesting debate. i don't exactly know where i stand on it. in one sense, i believe the parent _should_ have ultimate and final control over the raising of their children. obviously a hassidic (sp?) jewish family will have a different theory on decency than say my relatively liberal parents (relative, folx, for those of you who know my parents...). undersdandably they should be able to decide for themselves what they believe their kids should see/hear/read. on the other hand, what about parents who are negligent in their limitations? i don't mean utterly abusive and such, but just oblivious and/or unattentive? my mother, for instance, has no idea how to _run_ a computer, let alone put up software blocks and tell me what she would and would not like me to read etc. she doesn't even know hardly that there _are_ "bad things" on the net. is it unreasonable for the gov't to limit a bit what can be accessed? the problem lies in _what_ they should limit and what they shouldn't... when america online tried to make a blanket rule ban on the word breast everyone realized how stupid such a wide sweeping rule is. apparently, what needs to be done is to find a compromise of some sort. this new bill though, i'm sure, isn't it. where is the line to be drawn? just something to nibble on. -jill -and i try to draw the line, but it ends up running down the middle of me most of the time... -ani difranco
