**First Annual Grammy Showcase to Promote Unsigned Rock and Alternative Bands** **December 15, 1995 Deadline Approaching** The NARAS Foundation, Inc., the non-profit arm of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) is putting together the first annual Grammy Showcase, a national concert series to promote unsigned rock and alternative bands. Any band not signed to a nationally distributed major label can submit their material. All interested bands should submit two cassettes, one band photo, one band bio/press release and a list of all band members' names, addresses and telephone numbers. All material must be sent to: Grammy Showcase, 3402 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90405. There is no entry fee. No application is needed to submit. All tapes will be reviewed by a group of music industry professionals. For more information, call 800-200-8991 or check out the web site at http://www.showcase.grammy.com. After screening submissions, five bands in each local market will be invited to showcase in a live venue. The sites selected for the local showcases are Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington D.C. One band from each local showcase will travel to New York or Los Angeles, all expenses paid, to perform at a regional showcase in early February. Two bands from each regional showcase will be flown to the national showcase in Los Angeles during Grammy Week (February 27). The four bands performing in the national showcase will get a demo deal from a major label, attend the 38th Grammy Awards, participate in other Grammy Week events and receive CDs of their performance. Musicians, agents, managers, radio station music directors, A&R reps and music publishers will serve as showcase judges. GRAMMY Showcase is presented by the Recording Industries Music Performance Trust, the largest presenter of live music in the world, and by Atlantic Records, BMI and Paper Magazine.
