I found the poem and the verses in question in the book that I have. :-)
The only problem now being that the book is property of a library. :-(
It really helps to see the context. I can understand much more now.
Judging from the quote alone, the poem might seem to be gloomy,
but in fact it is quite magnificent (in fact I *knew* it all the time :-)
