Rush, and Katemas in Portland

My (ex-, I must reiterate for mine own sanity) girlfriend's main
complaint about Geddy's singing on the more recent, smoother stuff was
that, though it was more listenable, it was fairly expressionless. SHe
said that he seemed to sing everything with the same emphasis. That's
one of the reasons that I enjoy their wilder, older stuff -- though he
spends most of his time howling away, I think that there is more
expression and variety.

I have to agree, to a certain degree...compared to Kate or Ian Anderson,
he doesn't do as much with his vocals. Still, he *is* the man, and the
appriciation for weird subjects (hearing the epic of By-Tor and the
SnowDog was one of the first things that got me into 'art-rock' and
concept albums, a la the Who, and of course TNW), and intricate musical
structures that listening to Rush engendered in me definately led me to
Her KateNess.

On a more Kate-related note, has anyone talked about a Portland-Area
Katemas? I'd even go down to Eugene, if some other Oregonians were
Kating. If no one else is, I'll be holding one in Portland myself,
dammit. Bring pretzels.
