Or am I taliking complete bollocks, probably. The song is about someone who is trying to hide herself away emotionally from a suitor, presumably because she has been hurt in the past and is afraid of being hurt again. The second part of the song is a play on the traditional folk song "The Two Magicians". There have been a number of different theories over the years about the sybolism of the mules. When I asked Kate about the mules, she said that the mules were meant to represent the stupidity of trying to hide from your problems, rather than facing them. Whether or not Kate's theory is the correct one is probably best left to the individual listener. |>oug <nessus@mit.edu> "I hope some animal never bores a hole in my head and lays its eggs in my brain, because later you might think you're having a good idea but it's just eggs hatching."
