[I'm cross-posting this to r.m.gaffa since there is more likely a few KaTe fans there. :-] Personally, I find RS to be a pretty unremarkable album. SW is OK, but I find her earlier stuff (The Kick Inside, Hounds of Love) to much more compelling. I blame it all on Peter Gabriel. Ever since he showed her how easy it is to write a song with a drum-machine (later adding the rest of the instrumentation and melody lines), her song-writing has tended towards catchy, shallow, pop music[*]... not unlike the recent work of Mr. Gabriel. She used to write her songs at the piano, and her earlier songs have a much richer melodic and vocal quality. * {This is, of course, KaTe-relative. KaTe writing "shallow, pop music" is still orders of magnitude more compelling and deep than, say, Milli Vanilli or Peter Nesmith!} Reality -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- finger gysin@mugwump.ucsd.edu for PGP public key - NeXTmail accepted http://mugwump.ucsd.edu/bkeeley/index.html
