and then there are those of us whose only exposure to Steely Dan is the De Las
Soul sound Eye Know which samples the phrase "I know I love you better" and who
STILL love WSILY?.

In fact, during the various and assorted personal traumas that beset a close
friend of mine last summer, every time I'd go to visit her, she's beg me to
play "the happy katesong." she's not even a big kate OR prince fan, she just
appreciated the joyousness of it all. we both agree that it's a great song.

p.s. totally random new subject--has anyone out there heard of a new group
called portishead? i saw a video of theirs for a song called 'you don't love
me' or something like that and loved it. then i saw a review of their cd dummy
in details. the face (british style mag) gives it 'album of the year' accolades
in the latest issue. but it is on back order at where house records and
everywhere else here in east lansing. anybody know anything about the group?
female vocals, haunting video, kinda mid-tempo . . . .
