What is so great about YWA? It transforms the mundane into the magical, turning a simple tromp through the hills into an experience with the divine creative force. "They're makin' love for the peaches!" With such fresh imagery as this, we're reminded of the whole world of living things around us, and we meet this crazy bee-keeper who can understand their magic in a way most of us rarely do. "And we're thinking, who is this guy? Is he a nut or what?" The way Kate sings it simultaneously evokes the way most of us often view slightly off-kilter people like this when we meet them, i.e. with amused condescention. Yet Kate also seems to be almost winking at us, saying, See how stupid we were? We didn't get it. Not to say that YOU are stupid if you don't like the song. Personally, I listened to Big Stripy Lie three times last night trying to suss why everyone on the list seems so stoked about it. I gave up. brian p.s. i like the painful-sounding vocal gymnastics. kate is at her best when she creates sounds that can make us smile and then follows them immediately with stuff that makes us cringe. that's why i love The Dreaming (album) so much. PPS--FIONA--I JUST REALIZED I FORGOT TO SEND YOU SHIPPING MONEY. I AM SUCH A DUNCE. PLEASE EMAIL ME PRIVATELY AGAIN WITH YOUR ADDRESS SO I CAN SEND IT. OR JUST SEND THE TAPE COD. THANKS!
