i have the american cd as well, though it was not in my possession when
i posted that note last night. meredith was with me and she remembered
the lyric as "vale" (and KaTe has been known to spell things wrong
before.... ;)

however, i do think that "veil of darkness" could still be an, ahem, veiled
reference to that psalm and the imagery it evokes.
