the lyric sheet says "vale of darkness" which KaTe probably took from the
fairly famous psalm 23. the full verse is

even though i walk in the vale of darkness,
i fear no evil for thou art with me,
they staff and thy crook are my comfort.

vale, of course, is a synonym for valley (which is often how that psalm is
translated in modern bibles).
