I have just listened to 11 minutes of Kate Bush... the This Woman Work CD5 from few years ago. My impressions, as I remember having bought this before the TSW CD came out (I think) are: a) This is a better CD5 than *any* of the ones I've bought in the last month (i.e. RbG and ETM) b) The attention Kate pays to production and tiny details is incomprehensible for mortals (this includes all the fairlight stuff, and little pieces of BVs here and there, it's all amazing) c) There is no one better than Kate at *realizing* a given concept/idea/sound on record. I don't know how she does it, but to produce songs like that, so complete, is just astounding -- to be able to have that vision of the whole rather than getting lost in the parts. It's no wonder it takes so long to produce these albums. I think that TRS reflects this attention to detail just as much as HoL or TD or TSW. The songs are very different, imo, much less obtuse musically, much more straightforward [TSW had this feature for the most part as well] (and that is probably why I'm not as entranced with them as I could be) but the production still distinguishes Kate from all the other wannabes out there. Nobody does it better. -mjm
