Just got The Red Shoes yesterday. After a few spins, I can say that I wholeheartedly enjoy it. No doubt there are less worthy tracks than others (EtM being about right in the middle, IMHO), but there does seem to be some sort of thematic progression to the songs, snatches of lyric repeated in later songs to accomplish this. It's perfectly sublime, and hearing it is like being in darkness for four years, then seeing a ray of sunlight, or more like having sex after as many years' abstinence. For me, Kate's albums are always a religious experience, a revelation. This one is no less. But, as Lily says, "Take what I say with a pinch of salt and protect yourself with fire." I belong to that class of fans (i.e. fanatics) that are unabashedly in love with Kate, and willingly suspend their judgement upon the first, say, 50 listens. This is not to say that we are entirely uncritical, just incredibly patient. Now, I have to go back and listen to it again to see if I can figure out what's being said behind "Oh my God it's a jungle in here, you've got wild animals loose in here" on BSL. (Still haven't figured out the 1st interjection on RBG.) Peace, Kent Finley | P.O.Box 2081 | "...And all this science I don't understand, Lethbridge, Alberta | it's just my job five days a week..."
