I've always thought that _Mother Stands for Comfort_ was inspired by a 1984(?) film called _Dead Zone_. It was about a guy who got into an accident, woke up from a long coma, and realized he had possessed psychic power. Early in the film, he helped the local police to solve a serial murdering case that lead to a psychotic cop, whose mother was aware of her son's crime, and tried to protect him even when her son was exposed. The killing of innocent girls relates quiet well to "cat that takes the birds", and "murderur" and "madman" would match very well to the character in the film. Has anyone else seen this film?
