I my view, your suspicion that Dylan deliberately use cliches in
"I threw it all away" is born out by this two "facts":
a. Dylan has written some very good lyrics e.g. "Ramona", "Just
   like tom thumb's blues".
b. He tell what he means mainly by his modulation and
"phrasing", so he doesn't need any lyrics at all...

Kate Bush and lyrics is another matter of course. In this group
I assume it is canonical that her lyrics is quite at par with
her music. In my view, this is not the case. Her lyrics is
interesting at its best, e.g. Ninth Wave, but often just tells
some story that leaves you calm. At her worse she writes
something like Heads were Dancing. What I really mean is that
she seems to be living in a closed world, far from the struggles
of the daily life. Reminds you of the "Glass" family in
Salingers work.
