But couldn't the box be herself? And don't plenty of people encourage
people *not* to show themselves, but to be conservative, careful,
tentative, afraid of others, and of showing themselves to others? 

I wouldn't see this as the "only" interprestation, I just think it's
as valid an interpretation of that line as any.
