sheesh, maybe i better carry *all* my CDs with me all the time -- i'm
not sure i'd part with any of the 750+ discs. (except _Songs From
Liquid Days_ *blech* *phtewy*) but as the ship goes down, i'd grab:

1) KaTe, _Hounds of Love_ --
as the ship's lights dwindle in the dim deep, i put my headphones
on, and drift on the Ninth Wave...

2) Eno, _Before and After Science_ --
...no one receiving, i backwater. the still sea is darker
than before. we dream of a ship that sails away; a thousand
	miles away...

3) Debussy, _La Mer_ (the Boulez/CBS Great Performances disc, with
	_L'Apres-Midi d'un Faune_ and _Jeux_) --
...Van Gough paints the noon on the sea. the waves play tennis,
the wind discusses Mallarme with the ocean...

4) Bach, _The Art of Fugue_ (hmmm, maybe the Gustav *Leonhardt*
	version... it's a love-hounds thing; you oughta understand ) --
	...the structure of the sea is defined in fractal counterpoint;
	a foundation, an island...

5) Vaughan Williams, _A Pastoral Symphony_ (the first Boult recording) --
...a familiar wilderness, the life of significant soil.
the storms feed me now; afterwards a horn hangs over the hills...

6) The Pogues, _If I Should Fall From Grace With God_ --
...get a little drunk, or act like it. sing along, scare
	all the birds off...

7) 3 Mustaphas 3, _Heart of Uncle_ --
...everyone's invited to the party. forward in all directions!
take it to the fridge! mustaphas no stoppa! best way to see
	the world...

8) The Blue Airplanes, _Swagger_ --
...wake up alone; "the sun's bright enough for second sight/
	a glimpse of something white/it's alright/it's alright/it's
better than alright", "but i liked being weightless best..."

9) New Order, _Low-life_ --
...think about people i miss and people i don't. think of
one particular woman everytime i hear "Face Up"; feel better
	afterwards...

10) KaTe, _The Dreaming_ --
...i build a house and leave it open. face into the wind
	and stay sane.

then, of course, the case with the other 750 CDs washes up ;-}. hopefully,
it also contains books:

_The Annotated Alice_, Lewis Carroll and Martin Gardner
_The Lord of the Rings_, J.R.R. Tolkien
	_Collected Poems_, T.S. Eliot
_The Palm at the End of the Mind_, Wallace Stevens
	_The Titus Books_, Mervyn Peake
_The More Than Complete Hitchhiker's Guide_, Douglas Adams
	_The Dreamstone_, C.J. Cherryh
the Earthsea books, Ursula K. LeGuin
	_Nova_, Samuel R. Delany
	_Learning Irish_, Micheal O Siadhail

and movies (laser disk, or better yet, 35mm):

	Alien
	Casablanca
	The Wizard of Oz
	To Have and Have Not
	The Seven Samurai
	The Hidden Fortress
	Peter Pan (Disney Version)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
	The Philadelphia Story
	Kate Bush: Live at Hammersmith

and of course a mac or amiga. swim down, pull up some fiber from
the sea floor, and i'd be telling y'all what you're missing...

;-}
