Subject: spot the pigeon
Someone asked what was in the "Spot the Pigeon" Genesis ep. The ep dates from 1977 (or thereabouts) with the same line-up as Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering. There are three songs: Pigeon's Out Match of the Day Inside and Out (not the Phil Collins song!) The first two are humorous songs. Pigeon's Out is about trying to exterminate the pigeon's that "take potshots at the Tourists" in London. The "Match of the day" is all about football/soccer. By far and away the best song is the last one. It is very much in the same mould as the Tony Banks songs of the two LP's that I mentioned above. The song is about a guy who is being let out of prison where he was inprisonned for a crime he did not commit (at least that is what the lyrics imply). The first part of the song is slow and tells the story The second is the "Out" part and is instrumental. It has some very nice guitar parts from Hackett. I'm not sure how highly I'd recommend it. I don't listen to it that much but if you're a true Genesis fan I would buy it. It most definitely is not a post Phil Collins fame type EP Cheers, Pablo pi@eng.cam.ac.uk
