Newsgroups: rec.music.gaffa Path: brian From: brian@mel.dit.csiro.au (Brian May) Subject: Sinead & 'Patriotism' [short] (sorry 'bout lack of musical content) Message-ID: <1990Aug29.015031.27900@mel.dit.csiro.au> Organization: CSIRO DIT (Melb.) References: <9008281443.AA00895@mobius> Date: Wed, 29 Aug 90 01:50:31 GMT (I've no access to a US 'political' BBS, so this is my 1 & only post on the subject) [Lazlo & Greg's disagreement mainly deleted - you've seen it already!] ================ I think that Sinead's and Lazlo's point (also my belief) is that such Nationalism (especially outrage over refusing National anthems or [much stronger] flag burning) leads you well down the road to a 'superiority complex' over other nations. Now, you should realise her decision was based on a disgust/distaste for nationalism/patriotism, not America as most of the enraged people around this issue seem to think. I'm sure love hounds are sick of this by now, so, flames by email. brian -- |Brian May, DIT, CSIRO, | Open Communications Program | |55 Barry st, Carlton, | (TEL) +61 3 347 8644 (g3FAX) +61 3 347 8987 | |VIC 3053, Australia. | ACSNET:brian@ditmela.mel.dit.csiro.au |
