Three recent events which indicate that the Age of Reason, while besieged by
the close-minded munchkins, has not yet ended:

	(I) the nation-wide broadcast of Wagner's Ring cycle. The sets and
costumes were just beautiful. The cast was almost entirely
excellent, especially Hildegard Behrens, Christa Ludwig and
		Robert Morris. What says Julian?

(II) the defeat of the flag-burning amendment.

(III) In Chicago, WTTW's broadcast of "Spinal Tap" last night, only
partly bleeped out. Truly timely and insightful programming,
given recent developments in Florida. The scene with the song
"Lick my Love Pump" was hysterical.

Nonetheless, I don't see any light on the horizon, only Dan Quayle. Possible
scenarios for the next 12 months:

	* passage of the Golden Calf amendment. Congress is now capable of
raising any object or concept to the status of National Icon,
starting with the Flag. It is a felony to show disrespect
for, or voice disapproval of, a National Icon. Hardliners
believe the amendment cannot be sufficiently protected until
it is itself a National Icon.

	* Kate Bush is charged on multiple counts. Firstly sedition, for the
song "Pull Out the Pin." Secondly child pornography, for the
song "The Infant Kiss." Thirdly obscenity, for the song
"The Sensual World," which depicts obscene oral acts with
"seedcake." The sanctuary of East Wickham Farm proves no
match for agents of the FBI, empowered in 1989 by the Justice
Department to make unilateral arrests on foreign soil.

	* Diamanda Galas is convicted of witchcraft, using 300-year old laws
still on the books in Massachusetts. State law is amended to
		allow capital punishment via burning-at-the-stake.
