Selling Out

out of the blue...

there's a very small discussion on another board about "selling
out" - who does it, what does it mean, etc.  it started out as
talking about people who've sold their songs to be used in
advertising.  actually, though, "selling out" can be anything
which results in a little extra lining for the pockets.  for example:
XTC trashed the continuity of _skylarking_ by throwing in their
so-called hit, "dear god" (this is nearly unforgivable in my
opinion).  and then, of course, there's just about everything
thompson twins & simple minds have released for the past few
years.  but, again, this is just my opinion.  i've been told that the
stranglers' _dreamtime_ is a sell-out, and i disagree.
any other opinions out there?
