Strange Fruit; Wire fallout

[Is the Siouxsie and the Banshees album a cover of Bowie's _Pinups_ ?
 Pop will eat itself, indeed...]

``Strange Fruit'' was originally performed by Billy Holiday; I don't know
who wrote it. Robert Wyatt did a cover of it in his eccentric
jazz/easy-listening style.

B.C. Gilbert (of Wire) is currently working under the name ``He Said'' --
I've heard most of the new album and it's only got about 4 good tracks.
Most of it seems to be a showcase for his and John Fryer's production
techniques. I mean, it _sounds_ interesting, but can easily blend into the
wallpaper. Much better is a very simple sounding single by an A. C. Marias
which is mostly breathy, lyrical (female) vocals over a Wire-like loop of
guitar and bass.
