< John Rossi asks about Diamanda Galas > Try New Music Distribution Service, somewhere on Broadway, NY NY. They used to carry her first lp, but don't count on it being still in print. (Let me know if you need exact address for NMDS.) < Joy Division lyrics > Another fringe benefit if you buy the fine zine Wiring Department: they print a bunch of Joy Division lyrics. I remember Atrocity Exhibition and some other things. Also, the Japanese import of Closer has some weak attempts at guessing the lyrics (the mumbled parts are replaced by "...", I laughed so hard when I realized what was going on.) < Columbus scene > I heard Columbus OH has a decent scene with zines and good bands. Maybe I'm wrong...??? < Sonic Youth guitar tunings > A historical note: Velvet Underground was also doing this type of thing. Of course you can't hear it because of all the feedback and shitty production. :-) Hey John, let's go do some SY covers instead of Kate Bush covers this weekend... < Token record review > I never thought Laylah, Nurse with Wound's label, would put out something I can recommend to Cocteau Twins fans, but here it is. Check out Robert Haight's Juliet of the Spirits 12" single. Side 1 is lots of scratchy guitar, dark quiet piano and other soft sounds, kind of a child's nightmare. Side 2 is noisier but still with quiet sinister piano. Music for noise freaks to relax to. Bill
