vocal ranges

I've always been under the impression that a 5 octave range was
the highest ever achieved.  Minnie Ripperton had a 5 octave range.
I have read or heard (I forget from where, but believed it was a
very reliable source at the time) that Kate has a 4 octave range,
which is considered quite incredible.
