Subject: NMDS info
For those of you into obscure music but have not done much mail order, or are already mail order addicts like me but have not discovered NMDS, it stands for New Music Distribution Service, a large and very well-run mail order place for many different types of music. They're somewhere in New York City (fading memory sez 100 Broadway but DON'T TRUST ME) and are affiliated with Jazz Composers Association or sth. They put out a really detailed catalog with *reviews* of just about every item they carry. They usually have tons of old and new jazz (emphasis on avant garde jazz), lots of stuff from the NY free improvisation scene, just about everything you ever wanted from the Fred Frith/Chris Cutler/Tom Cora etc. clique, in addition to "avant classical" stuff, minimalist music, ROIR cassettes, and a respectable (tho not incredible) selection of industrial/noise stuff. They only send UPS (this might have changed) and do a great job on protecting your purchases. (Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with NMDS in any way. The above is a token public service announcement so I don't feel so guilty about posting the following...) For Rob Rosen primarily: your Other Music albums are from the label Other Music (what else). OM14 is Prime Numbers, and OM302 is Incidents out of Context, both $7. They look really interesting; how about reviews after you get them? Bill
